From the laboratory
to the conditions for learning.
My research began with biological systems: calcium signaling in plant cells, followed by collaborative investigations in cell differentiation, cancer biology, and natural products. Teaching and academic leadership led me to study the institutions through which people enter and develop in science.
That thread connects my years at Long Island University, research and teaching appointments at Columbia, and national work in STEM training and participation. Understanding Interventions and my evaluation practice bring scholarship into conversation with the people designing and improving educational programs.
