From biological systems
to educational systems.

DePass’s scientific foundation is in cell and molecular biology. His research has included intracellular calcium signaling and work on cell differentiation as a therapeutic target for cancer. Asking how a system works, testing explanations, and examining evidence also informs his work in education and institutional development.

His Long Island University career spanned appointments from adjunct instructor in 1992 to Professor of Biology, a position he held from 2013 to 2021. He also served as Associate Dean of Research and as the university’s Assistant Vice President for Research Development. At Columbia University, his appointments included researcher at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center and Senior Lecturer in epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health.

Today, his work includes leading DePass Academic Consulting, serving as CEO and Co-Founder of Lifestyle Learning®, directing/co-directing Understanding Interventions, and publishing its journal. He served as Co-Director of the Louis Stokes Regional Center of Excellence for the Study of STEM Interventions from 2020 to 2024.

His current interests also include Jamaican family and historical research, Tony’s Guide, and hospitality. These are distinct ventures connected here through the person behind the work.

Career dates and appointments below follow the NSF biosketch certified September 21, 2026, with the Louis Stokes Center role corrected to 2020 to 2024 by Anthony DePass. This supersedes older online profiles that still describe past university appointments as current.
